Flexural buckling behaviour of concrete-filled double skin aluminium alloy columns

Concrete-filled double skin steel tubular columns consisting of two hollow tubes and concrete infill between their interspace, have become popular in modern construction owing to high ultimate load, less self-weight good ductility. The weight these can be reduced further by using lightweight aluminium alloy instead ones. This paper experimentally numerically studied the flexural buckling behaviour concrete-filled (CFDSAT) subjected axial compression. A total 8 CFDSAT were tested a pin-ended set-up. test results are presented terms failure modes, load versus mid-height lateral displacement curves. Non-linear finite element (FE) models specimens developed accuracy was evaluated comparing FE results. numerical parametric investigation conducted study influence ratio, member slenderness, cross-sectional slenderness strength on structural columns. revealed that dimensions outer section, compressive significant effect response columns, while inner section is prominent. In absence design standards for members, methodology proposed with curve predict based Eurocode 4 framework. Moreover, revised correction factor suggested determine effective rigidity according 4.
